Welcome to Personal Finance Beta! You want to spend money on what matters to you. Life is too short to be worrying about money and I am devoted to helping you make the choices that will help ensure you can follow one of the most famous recipes for happiness (from Dickens’ Great Expectations):

Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen pounds nineteen [shillings] and six [pence], result happiness. Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pounds ought and six, result misery.

What’s in it for You?

This is part of a larger project to build a product that will make personal finance automatic. I love thinking about this stuff, but I realize that not everyone has my zeal for personal finance. What matters is that you have enough money to meet your financial goals and maybe some extra to spend on whatever you want. I want to take care of all of the drudgery (bills, debt, savings, investing, retirement, taxes, etc.) so you can spend your time and money on what matters to you.

This is a place for me to understand what financial issues are important to others so that I can build something that everyone (including myself!) can use. Give me comments and questions and I’ll research the topics, write posts about them, and in the future, incorporate what I’ve learned into something you can use!

What’s in it for Me?

Growing up, I was amazed by how my parents magically knew how to pay taxes and bills, balance a checkbook, and tons of other necessary personal finance tasks. I assumed that when I became an adult I would receive a book outlining how to do all of these things and live a grown-up financial life. I received no such book (let me know if you got yours, maybe mine got lost in the mail). This blog is the book that I wish I had. I’m writing this for my friends, family, (future) kids, and my sister.

Follow me on this journey to financial stability, sustainability, and security. Welcome!
